Is PAT testing a legal requirement?
There's no single law that says "you must PAT test." However, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that all electrical equipment used in the workplace is maintained in a safe condition. PAT testing is the most widely accepted way to demonstrate compliance. Most venues, insurers, and event organisers require it.
How often do I need a PAT test?
For most portable equipment, annual testing is the industry standard. Equipment that's moved frequently — touring gear, hire stock, mobile rigs — may benefit from more frequent testing. We'll advise based on your setup.
What happens if something fails?
We'll label it as failed and give you a written note explaining the fault. Unlike most testers, we can often diagnose and repair the issue on the spot, or supply a tested replacement from our stock.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Every test produces a full PAT certificate listing each item, its serial number or description, the test result, and the retest date. We provide digital or printed copies.
Can I drop gear off at your unit?
Absolutely. Our unit is at Unit 6A, Beacon Road, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6 8JE. Drop-off avoids call-out fees and is often the fastest option for musicians and small businesses.
Do you cover my area?
We're based in Poulton-le-Fylde and cover all of Lancashire including Blackpool, Lytham, Preston, Kirkham, Garstang, Lancaster, and beyond. On-site travel is included up to 15 miles. Further afield is 45p/mile.
